This course provides covers what you need to master web technologies. It starts with the essentials of writing good HTML and CSS, and then moves on to provide a solid coverage of Javascript, including the basics, then covering AJAX, XML and JSON.

As the business use of the Internet continues unabated, you need to be able to create web and Intranet pages the work on all platforms and browsers, and are at the leading edge of useability and functionality.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

• write good, portable HTML code, including using graphics, frames, tables and imagemaps effectively
• identify what features of dynamic HTML will be of use
• use CSS for consistency, content positioning and using CSS or Layers
• understand how plugins can be used, when to use them and when to avoid them
• use JavaScript for interactivity, with rollovers, popup-navigation and accessing the DOM
• understand more advanced uses of Javascript, including AJAX and cookies
• understand how a web server is set up, the basics of CGI scripts and how forms work
• understand request and response traffic

This course is aimed at everyone who needs to understand web technologies. This includes web designers, programmers and web system architects.

You should have an understanding of basic HTML, understand basic programming, and have produced a web page already. You can bring your web site to the course, and add the extra features to it during the course.
